Introduction:

Almost every famous city has its river. The river flows through the heart of the city, affects just about everything in the city, and becomes a part of the city. Paris has the La Seine, London has the Thames, and so on. For Shanghai, a bustling metropolis in the Orient, history is linked to a river called the Suzhou Creek.

Both Suzhou Creek and Huangpu River are called Mother Rivers by the people of Shanghai. The Bund along the Huangpu formerly served as a settlement for foreigners and has long been the financial center of the city. The area is prosperous but has little connection with ordinary people. Suzhou Creek is narrow, but it seems closer to the people, and it is often said that life in Shanghai is bound to the Suzhou Creek.

A trip you will get to see how Shanghainese truly live!
Itinerary:

Meet up @ 10:00 with other explorers to search real Shanghai.

We will go through those narrow zigzag lanes filled with Ma-Jong houses, hairdressers, outdoor wet market, street vendors and very old lane houses about to be knocked down.

We will experience haggling for meat and vegetables in a real wet market. Then we will head to visit Mr Hu, who was born and raised up in this area for more than 40 years! Let’s go to his house to meet his family. They will teach us how to make dumplings while show us all their old precious albums. Mr Hu’s dad used to be a big fan of Chairman and collected loads of his badges, stamps and newspaper, etc.

After the yummy yummy lunch in such an old house, we will move on exploring the lanes again with those heritage architure.

By now a fulfilling four hour walk tour has come to an end. Now finally you will have a new and complete picture of Shanghai and its people. Not just all the kids from Park 97!
